Introducing the Prayer Path
On October 2nd, Cambridge Vineyard Church begins the expansion of its ministry by introducing the practice of contemplation.
Contemplation simply involves learning to quiet ourselves so that we can hear God speak to us and then, with our lives, respond.
The Vineyard property consists of 14 acres of parkland, nestled into a hill overlooking Mill Creek on the city's east side. In the first half of the 20th century, it functioned as a farm, known as The Oaks. Then in the mid 1950s, the Slovakian Jesuits purchased the property and transformed it into a monastery. In 2002, the Vineyard took possession of the property and has since made it our home.
A forested area on the south side of the property had remained unused for some time. This summer, staff and volunteers began the task of planning, marking out a course, and clearing out brush and garbage to make way for the path. It consists of nine stations with benches to sit on, that allow participants to pause, reflect, and take in the beauty of the landscape. Audio and written materials, including original musical compositions and guided reflections, will be available to those using the path, enabling a meaningful, personal experience.
The natural beauty and surroundings afford us the opportunity to “get away from it all” while still in the heart of the city. People who visit the property for the first time often comment on its peacefulness.
This prayer path is just the first step in the transformation of the Vineyard property into a haven of healing, rest and restoration. It is our hope that these grounds will serve not just the people who call the Cambridge Vineyard their spiritual home, but also the many people of this city looking to encounter a place of inner peace and sanctuary.
